MSED is a professional audio encoder-decoder for mid-side processing which is able to encode (split) the incoming stereo signal into two components: mid-side pair, and vice versa: decode mid-side signal pair into stereo signal.

MSED is also able to work in the inline mode with the ability to adjust mid and side channels’ gain without the need of using two plug-in instances in sequence. You can use MSED to extract mid-side channels, swap stereo channels, switch polarity of the signal.

A good choice for your first mid side decoder/encoder. It is simple and fairly straight forward, and like all Voxengo products very high quality.

This is also a great plugin to make a stereo source monophonic without altering the audio quality (e. g. to check quickly a whole mix in mono). -> Insert MSED and just mute the side. That's all!!!

This is a simple and effective way to boost only the middle by some small amount or enhance the sides. I often use it to split a track into mid and side for special tricks on each for stereo enhancement. For example: try muting the middle channel and adding reverb to the side channel then mixing this in to the master bus ever so slightly to add subtle (or crazy if you like) spatially aware reverb. I do not use this on every track, but it came in handy when I was asked to master a mixdown with centered vocals that were too quiet. I simply boosted the middle signal, and then carefully EQed out the frequencies I didn't need. It sounded like I had boosted only the vocal track and they wondered how I did it.
